Put the lid back on and now you have a good 75amper charger that has Vabs of 14.8. (You no longer have a "four stage" converter. ) You are now in charge of shutting it off when you figure the batts are high enough. No automatic shut off. 14.8 is too high as a Float except at the North Pole in winter.(end quote)
...so no more auto float mode?
won't 14.8 cause excessive gassing?
Correct, you will have a 75amp manual charger except it does have a voltage limit of your setting whereas other manual chargers left on just keep raising battery voltage till they stall out at their power limits. So you can leave the mod-75 on and it will get the batts full and then keep them at 14.8, which is too high for very long as a Float.
IMO leave the 75 alone and get one of those Mean Well (name?) gizmos the other guys are getting which ought to be perfect for you. Maybe with that you don't need the VEC. Ask mena, he has both so he can say.
No 14.8 is the proper Vabs. Check these voltages. Your batts want the same as these. Compare the charging profiles with my ugly graphs. Batteries all work the same pretty much.
