here's a question:
i've been looking at ac/dc switching power supplies, 3 in particular; the meanwell se-600-15 (for the high amps and adjustable voltage), the megawatt s-400-12 (for the same reason), and the arksen 3010d (mex's ebay link above) for the adjustable volts AND adjustable amps.
my question is, would the first two serve well as 'top-off' and 'equalizing' chargers, even though the amperage is not adjustable, or preset at a lower level like it is in equalizing mode on the b&d vec and the like? thanxx!
Note the E on the VEC works on the 4amp setting and at 15.7v temp compensated, but you don't necessarily get that amps at first. It depends on the battery at the time.
It might start off at 4.1a and stay there for a time then amps taper or it may start at some lower amps and taper from there. It runs for whatever time it takes. Could be hours and hours or less than an hour to taper down and say FUL and shut off. Depends on the battery condition.
Great way to equalize because no babysitting, you can let it run overnight while you sleep :) The classic method with a manual charger means you have to be there and shut it down yourself before it overdoes it. Sometimes to get the SG back to baseline I have to run two Es in a row with the VEC. Get the first FUL then restart and do another E and it will run for more time with amps tapering till says FUL again.
Mex method of constant amps with constant voltage was a puzzle since amps must taper if voltage is held constant, but he clarified that the amps will indeed taper when voltage is held.
The various gizmos under discussion will be the same--hold voltage and amps taper. For constant amps, voltage must rise
understood, but is it o.k. to just let the batteries decide on the amps at the beginning of E, or should they be kept limited to say 4amps? thanxx!
(the main reason i ask, is i need to make a decision on whether i need a power supply with adjustable amps?)
