Ideally, a battery should be equalized only when necessary.

Equalize a battery when it needs it, not from the pages or screen of some half baked article or advertisement.
Too much amperage peels good and healthy active plate material like a potato grater. It ends up in the sediment chamber. Wonderful. Destroy the good part of the battery, rush through the process and leave sulfation on the plates. Fartsmeller tweaking...
You can't cheat on this formula...
Equalizing is HARD MEDICINE. Don't punish the entire company because one recruit didn't shave close enough.
I wrote a suggestion as to how to go about getting controlled amperage for a single battery. 100 watts worth of incandescent bulbs renders amperage close enough for 200 ampere hours.
Five amps constant current for EACH 100 amp hours of battery. Any other formula ranges from risky, to laughable to bogus.
