??? but what would be the symptoms of compromised batteries??? mine take a charge and hold a charge for weeks at a time, and have good sg readings.

yes, i do plan on hooking up to the alternator at some point. and yes, heavy wiring is the key; at least, according to those who pull trailers, and had to beef up the wiring from their truck's alternator all the way back to the trailer batteries, in order to get a decent charge current through.
