would charging a 215a/h bank with a 75amp charger be o.k.? i've read various numbers... c/10, c/20. etc. i would think the batteries would limit the current, either way.
See my ugly graph of 70a on 220AH. Perfect.
Did you modify the 75amper? Does it still work? :)
Splitting the bank and alternating which pair is working and which is getting topped up is a good plan IMO. In winter you can use all four at once as required for furnace etc.
haven't done the mod yet... probably this weekend.
??? should i just plug it in without it hooked up to the batteries, and wait for it to do it's 15 minute boost, and then tweak it??? thanks!
No, you do the mod with no batteries connected. Just your meter leads in the 75's output terminals. Plug in the 120 and note the volts--should be about 13.60.
Be very careful, there are some thin wires running here and there and they all matter!!! The little pot takes a very small flat screwdriver like for glasses frames.
Now (cover is off of course) very gently turn the little blue pot screw (you might have to scrape some goop away that they use to hold the voltage as set) watching your meter. I forget if up is counter-clockwise or clockwise--slowly find out and then tweak it to 14.8 (IMO) then leave it be, put the cover back on. IMO don't try to adjust it for each situation. Each time is a good chance to wreck the thing, so when you get away with it the first time, leave it alone :(
The cover can go back on with screws where the four rivets were, not required to pop-rivet it back on.
Now when you charge the batts, the charger will run at constant 75 amps till batts reach 14.8v (however long that takes) then stay at 14.8 while amps taper and stay at 14.8 for as long as it is plugged in, you have to shut it off.
