Edit edit edit! Ok my advice has been for the PM3 which does not have that 15 min always boost thing the PM4s have.
The PM3 will do boost only if the batts are below 13.2 and all that like a WFCO. So when you do the bench voltage thing it reads 13.6.
Now what about a PM4? I actually don't know what it will show bench test at first. What if it shows 14.6 at first and stays there a while? You don't want to adjust the voltage while it is doing that-- you only want to change the 13.6 to 14.8 so you need it to be showing 13.6 when you crank up the pot to 14.8.
Maybe you have to do it as the OP suggested with batteries on so you ever see 13.6 after a while and then crank it up and put your voltmeter on the batts since the batts are in the charger terminals. No idea! OP will no doubt report on how that all goes with the PM4 instead of a PM3. With any luck the bench test will be starting at 13.6 so it is easy like with a PM3.
o.k., thanks for the heads up! nevertheless, it should still end up as a single stage "dumb" charger, correct?
