That #6 might not be the only culprit. There is still the possibility of loose connections on the positive path and additional R somewhere on the neg path, ASSuming there is nothing wrong with the PM75.
EDIT--also the 120v input has to be good or it won't run right.
Don't forget that you might get that 15 min of 14.6 voltage at first but at what amps? With low batts (under about 75% SOC) you should get some time at 75a.
Purest test of the PM itself would be from it to a pair of low batts using a short fat set of wires, well connected. Be a PITA to arrange that when it is now all installed.
turns out that 6ga is actually 4ga... the packaging said 6ga, and i thought it looked like 4ga, but wasn't sure... managed to see the faint writing on it and sure enough it's 4 ga. and held next to the other 4ga, it's identical.
anyhoo, several connections were not as tight as originally installed... so i tightened everything.
i discharged the batts by 170Ah and they were at 12.32v (after resting for about 40 minutes. i connected the pm's neg directly to the batt post, and disconnected the tri-metric and shunt completely. i plugged in the pm, and as usual it started at about 12.8 volts.
so i unplugged it, disconnected all the wiring, and tied the two sets of 6v batts in series, with no other wiring to any loads or inverter. both sets of batts were at 12.48v (up a little from the short charge on the large bank). i hooked up the pm to one set, plugged it in, and it started at about 13.2v. i tried it on the other set, with the same result. a while later i hooked up the peak 40amper to the other set. both are now charging... the peak rising in voltage much faster than the pm.
so, the pm doesn't go into boost on the 430Ah bank, nor either of the 215Ah banks. and there is a difference of 0.05-0.07v between the pm's screw connections and the batt posts when charging the 215 bank. i will try tightening the screws after charging is finished.
update: difference in voltage between pm and posts reduced to 0.01v during charge.
