You would normally leave the regular charger on at 14.8 (whatever)till the batts are "full" then do the overcharge at 15.x so amps per batt acceptance will be low then. You don't need to swap chargers earlier anymore now that the main charger will stay at the higher Vabs past that previous drop to 13.6 at 78% SOC. Assuming you do get that PM75 working the way you want. (end quote)
that's the whole problem. i may have to set the Vabs at ~ 14.2v (boost at 15.2v)... which is better than 13.6 Vabs, but still not a decent abs charge. but the 1620 can be set to 14.8v continuous, which would be faster, even though it's only 20 amp max... the trick will be finding out when to introduce the 1620 into the charge, in order to make the best of both chargers. in reality, the pm will function as a 75amper during boost (if boost works) and as say a 40? amper during abs because of it's low Vabs.
Seems like you won't know what you are dealing with until you run it on low batts with the Trimetric in there so the 15 min thing does not occur and it keeps on going and you can observe the amps over time and get the desired charging profile.
BTW, just to add to the fun, if it kicks off at 15+v and 75 amps this could overstress the inrush current thermistor on the 120v input end. My 100amper had trouble with that when I was tinkering with it. Turns out that you have to clamp on the DC wires to the battery BEFORE you turn on the 120v power to it AND never do a "hot restart" such as if the gen conks out on starting the charger so you restart the gen, then restart the charger.
The thermistor needs time to cool off before restarting. I don't know the minimum time you must wait, but ten minutes is too soon :(
To preclude all that, I have learned to start the Honda gen and let it warm up for a minute with eco off, then plug in the charger, wait another minute and then turn eco on. This works to stop the gen from conking out right away when doing this in February. Might be a PITA, but not as much of a one as replacing thermistors! :(
