please tell me more about the pmbc.
on boatandrvaccessories.com it says the 3 stage charging can be turned off? and apparently the 55amper is adjustable from 12.5-16.5v? thanks.
I am not clear whether boatandrv has the latest in PowerMax units. They sell what they call PM3s but they describe them as though they are PM4s. I don't trust their blurb, so you would have to pin down the guy on the phone as to just what they have in extreme detail.
PowerMax's own site shows the latest line of "real" units including the PMBCs which are 14.8. They have recently added a 120amp PMBC. Previous biggie was the 100amper.
The "real" PMBCs at PowerMax are in two versions:
-without the optional adjustable voltage. These do the same stages as the converter version
-with adjustable voltage. No stages. you set the voltage to suit yourself. You could do a charging profile with it for bulk, absorb, float, equalize twiddling the knob.
Bestconverters are rumoured to be launching a version of the adjustable PMBC to be called Boondocker Deluxe. This is always coming out soon since a couple years ago :) but people in contact say it is really coming soon this time.
Go-Power uses PowerMax units for their converters they sell. (used to be Iotas but they switched over a couple years ago) They also have a PMBC but will not offer the adjustable voltage version.
I don't know why you would get the PMBC with stages instead of the regular converter version. The PMBC costs more and all you get extra is a set of cables to go with it? PowerMax insists the PMBC is a different model from the converter with its own specs and is not the same as the converter. Beats me.
