Positively no argument...
The L16s are true deep cycle batteries with far and away thicker plates than ANY GC220. I have those 16s in Quicksilver and the last thing I worry about is having a cell go belly up. The R&S is forgiving. Standard 16 20-ampere hour rating is 317 so you can see the R&S is a heavy mother. There is -always- people around to gorilla heavy batteries. There is no one around to deal with battery problems. The difference between R&S and Trojan is vast. To anything else it is sad. Truly superior flooded are much more resistant to sulfation woes. You won't believe it until you experience it.
Sailboat. 1990. Mexico. Alternator miswired. Full fielded. Blew tops off of R&S 16s. I epoxied new patches to cover holes refilled with 1.270 electrolyte then cycled them repeatedly. Met OEM CCA specs and gravity dependability. 4-years later I got an email from the Aegean Sea. Circumnavigation batteries doing perfect. This impressed me.
Remark was about R&S having to settle for AGM line source is not Concorde Lifeline. Both R&S flooded and Lifeline AGM have earned legendary status for a reason. It takes a lot to impress me. I have worked with many batteries and truly outstanding ones put a smile on my face.
The 16s will be grinning when the 105s go to the recycler. Worth pondering.
