Why is my water heater anode NOT wearing out??

I've had this new trailer (and its new anode) for a year and a half -- more than 100 nights of camping, with lots of hot water usage. Today I checked the anode -- it was in perfect condition, although there was some white crystalline crud built up on the surface. The white crud easily came off with an exacto knife.

So here is my question -- what does it mean that the anode is not wearing out at all? Is it not doing its job, and is the lining of the water heater getting eaten away instead? We have very hard water at home, but the water in the trailer's tank is often very pure mountain water -- we usually tow the trailer almost empty and then fill the tank in the mountains. Maybe that has something to do with what is going on?

Your powers of deduction will be greatly appreciated-- thanks!!
