The water source(s) you have been hooked to must not be very hard.
The white crystalline crud that was built up is calcium deposits on your Aluminum Anode rod.
The Aluminum anode rod is standard OEM.
It is harder material and doesn't dissolve as quickly (as aftermarket Magnesium Anode rod).
You can swap to a Magnesium rod which will dissolve quicker BUT they can also cause 'sulfur' smell IF water source(s) is high in microbes.
