Why is my water heater anode NOT wearing out??

I've had this new trailer (and its new anode) for a year and a half -- more than 100 nights of camping, with lots of hot water usage. Today I checked the anode -- it was in perfect condition, althoug...

********The threads of the rod are probably covered in too much seal tape to make a metal connection with the tank.******* The rod wont do anything unless it is "grounded" with the tank. This has nothing to do with the hardness of water...nothing at all.
