You can get an inexpensive BMS from HERE which covers cell balancing, high and low voltage cutoffs, and some other stuff. That will probably cost around $100. Then there is copper bus bars, and some strapping to hold the cells together. If you're gonna go this route, read, read, read then read some more.
I do wonder how long before Lifepo4 becomes affordable. No peukert, no worrying about partial discharge storage, ability to accept insane charging currents, support huge loads.
