Gdetrailer,
Since I have an inverter/charger, the default for my converter is "off". I do set the fridge to propane--if I remember.
Inverter/chargers tend to be more expensive than most folks want to spend.
Folks tend to gravitate to the lowest priced items they can find (bargain basement) which eliminates niceties like inverter/charger with built in ATS.. So, they go bargain hunting at Harbor Freight pricing.
I will also mention, I have looked at the same all in one inverter/charger/ATS for my own setup.. Each time I dismiss that idea for the following reasons..
Expensive..
Inverter with multistage charging plus ATS costs several times more than if you buy separate devices..
Quality..
Most inverter/chargers/ATS have limitations on the charging side or the inverter side which means you have to compromise on which side of the world you want to skimp on.. Most of these do not have as good of multistage converter and to get one with a amperage that I wanted would mean buying even a bigger inverter at a higher expense.
Cost and ease of repair/replacement when it goes sideways.
If the Inverter dies, you replace the entire thing at a huge cost or buy a separate inverter and use the charger of the dead unit.
Charger dies, well you either trash the entire thing or buy a external charger and limp along.
Dies all together and now you buy buy another hugely expensive unit or buy lower cost better quality separates..
Choose your poison.
Sometimes the simplistic approach is the better route.
