Yamaha 2400is Generator

Here is what happened;
The generator was running fine, we were using it nonstop during the fires, it started to make a grinding noise, shut it off and took it apart.
a screw backed off and rubbed on the "rotor" dislodging a (one) magnet.

I would like to know if the generator will make electricity (or any other bad effects) if i put it back together with out the one magnet that came loose. Can it be glue/epoxy back in place and work correctly?
What are the consequences if i leave the broken magnet out and run it (one magnet short)
Thank you

  • Just an update, for what its worth, I put everything back together and fired it up. It sounds good, smooth and makes electricity. Everything seems to be working as it should.
    I was kind of surprised that I had so few responses with this problem, when you figure that most generator threads go on for pages. I want to thank the guys who did respond every bit of info helps when your in unfamiliar territory.
  • I got a new bolt and used blue locktite also, Yesterday I used JB Weld and secured the magnet, just waiting for the cure and am going to replace the three bolts that secure the rotor in place.
    Then we will see how it goes.
  • :) Hi, my Yamaha 2400 did the same thing except for the magnet problem. I bought a new bolt and used blue locktite on it.
  • the rotor for the generator on line is about $200.00 cheapest I could find was $197.00
    At this point I think I will try using jb weld, unless i hear something else.
  • I would be concerned that it was out of balance both electrically and mechanically. I would go with JB Weld and put it back on. Put some locktite on that screw and the others.

    Have you asked a dealer what a new rotor costs?
