Yet another battery question

I need to replace the batteries in my TC and am thinking about AGM ones. However i've heard they do not take freezing very well. I'm not going to be out in freezing temps too many days but may not be able to avoid it. Thoughts?

  • Place the tip of your tongue on the doorknob. If it sticks, keep your batteries well-charged.
  • Keep the AGM charged and you will have NO issues with freezing.
Actually AGM is a bit more tolerant to freezing compared to wet cells.
But don't push it to hard ;)
  • Hi Photomike,

Well I hope we exported that cold to you in your most recent Provincial election.

    Hi,

Since AGM have a higher specific gravity they are more resistant to freezing than regular flooded batteries.

A fully charged flooded battery won't freeze until the temperature reaches -60 c (-77 f). If it is that cold outside there are likely to be other SERIOUS problems.

  • Go to this site and search (ctrl-F) 'freezing'

Many battery questions can be answered here. And the fact that it's in a Truck Camper doesn't matter. Mine is a better answer.
