Your preferred 30 amp generator for RVing.

Is heavy to load by myself, but I love my Honda EU3000i. Super quiet, minimal vibration, simple oil changes, typical Honda reliability.

My FIL also has a EU3000i and feels the same way.

I love my Honda 2000. Can't run too much on it but you sure can charge the batteries, watch TV, etc. Just no heavy duty stuff.

Add one vote for the Honda 3000. Runs much longer than two 2000's on a tankful.

Ours also ride in the back of the truck. We added a front power inlet to run the generator while driving. A rotary selector switch keeps the factory power cord from being energized when the genny is running.

Class leader that it is the Honda EU3000iS isn't a 30 amp generator nor are even a pair of EU2000i gensets. 30 amps x 120 volts = 3600 watts which neither solution can provide. Also, note there are two distinct 3000 watt Honda inverter gensets - the exceptionally quiet electric start EU3000iS and the lighter and much noisier EU3000i, known in the US as the Handi and here in Canada as the EU3000iK - two entirely different animals. Regardless, if the OP truly wants a 30 amp generator then neither of these 3000 watt Honda inverter generators is it but the super quiet, fuel injected Honda EU7000iS certainly would be, along with the Yamaha EF4500ise. :B

I like the Champion 3100 inverter generator. Runs my 13.5 ac and bought it for $780 delivered.

if i was going to buy a new gen to run everything, that's what i would buy.

30 Amp or not, I like my Honda EU2000. If I ever wanted more power I would go with a Honda EU3000. :) Of course, as power rating goes up, so does the weight. That is why I will never carry along a true 30 Amp output generator.

Honda generators and any equipment powered by a Honda gasolene engine have been the most dependable and trouble free I have ever owned. ;)

A better question is what are you trying to run?

30amp is shorthand for a particular cord. In reality, a master electrician friend showed me the spec one time...it's not rated for 30amps continuous.

Likewise, generators have different ratings depending on duration. For example the Honda 2000 is only rated for 2000w (16.7amps)for very short term. For longer term loads, it's only 1600watts (13.3amps).

In many cases this works fine. The typical item that controls the size of the generator needed is the air/con. Ours takes around 22amps to start up but once started draws 9.7amps. It also has a surge feature so even though 2400wats won't equal 22amps it still gets I started.

This startup load is usually the limitation. A Honda 2000 can run an air/con...if it's already running. It's the startup where it struggles. Of course there are add ons that can help reduce that.
