You can buy a 2016 or late model Duramax anywhere. However a 2005 worth buying will be a little harder to find. Naturally if you spot a 2005 you may inquire about it, however there is no need to inquire about a 2016.
The fact that your parents decided to upgrade to the 2016 shows what they think of the 2005. Like most they wanted an improved truck.
There can be a lot of improvements in 11 years.
