I get why someone would be happy to find a nice old vehicle to save money, but can't for the life of me figure out why anyone would pay that kind of money for an out dated, stinky, noisy, relatively underpowered one. Different strokes I guess.
Not different strokes, but rather supply and demand.
HD diesel suvs that are low mile and in great condition are increasingly rare. Combined with the fact that a new diesel “Excursion” if it actually existed, would be the better part of $100k, makes the prices of the older ones more palatable to someone who wants or needs that configuration of vehicle.
Personal opinion, I wouldn’t pay $5 for one. Primarily because 4speed and diesel should have never been used on the same spec sheet! This was also my opinion when they actually made diesels mated to 4 speeds. 4 speed in a diesel is like a power glide behind a gasser. Horrible for real towing.
But better than nothing if that’s all that exists. Now a 6 speed manual tuned up 7.3 Excursion would be worth a second look!
