payload capacity of model X?
I don’t know about the plaid but our buddies X is about 1480 pounds of payload. I think the plaid is a couple hundred pounds heavier so I’ll take an educated guess at around 1280 pounds payload. That’s about four hundred pounds more than our model Y.
Our towing capacity on our Y is 3500 pounds. It’s tight with our trailer weighing in about 3380 pounds loaded with everything including our junk, water. propane and some firewood. Hitch weight around 340 pounds.
We have towed a lot over the last 35 years but it’s weird towing with an EV SUV. Hard to describe. We have just under 450 horsepower and similar torque. (We paid the extra bucks for the boost package because it’s our tow vehicle). No transmission so there is no shifting sensation. It’s like the trailer isn’t even there in terms of acceleration or hills. The brake pedal seldom gets used even on the steepest hills as the regen looks after all that. Teardrops are pretty streamlined and usually not that tall so although there is obviously an energy penalty it’s not as bad as a box type trailer. Our first longer trip will be May although all plans are still up in the air.
Anyway, we would have preferred a model X but at pretty much twice the money it wasn’t worth it for us. It’s a nice combo for our needs. Looking forward to travelling this spring and summer.
