Since I have 3 trucks, I need to specify which one I did something to.
The 84 K20 has been up on jack stands for 3+ weeks now. The project plans was "install parking brake cables" so I can use the parking brake. The truck's rear axle was swapped sometime earlier in its life - and I've discovered it is older than the truck, and has different brake backing plates, which don't work with the style parking brake cables on 84 and newer trucks.
Not only have I had to replace the backing plates (which are nearly non existent), I've done a complete rebuild of the brakes because the shoes were covered in gear oil due to failed seals on both sides.
the first backing plate showed up Wednesday, the second one Thursday. GM dealers say they don't exist, but long before I was told that, I found them on Amazon (2 right side versions). I didn't order right away because I was scrounging for them in wrecking yards.
The truck should be back together today.
