We changed out the hardware for attaching the plastic air dam (valance?) to the underside of the front bumper. We have an F350 and the air dam had broken free on both the driver and passenger sides (Apparently a common occurrence based on the discussion we had with the Ford dealer.)
The air dam was originally attached with plastic mushroom and bolt-on clips. The bolt-on clips had ripped free. The mushroom clips had pulled through, but the holes were still fine. We purchased 5/16" stainless bolts, washers, fender washers, and locking nuts and replaced all the original attachment hardware. Even the points that had ripped out are firmly attached and look like they will remain secure. Sure beats giving Ford $130 for a new piece of plastic.
