Sadly, my work at bicycle shops was pre-suspension days with solid forks and tails and cable activated calipers were just being introduced on discs. I saw enough failures with the skewers in my time, maybe I have skewed view of them. I stepped away from the bicycle shops just as mountain bikes were being introduced into the market by the BMX builders.
