03 F350 DRW GVWR vs 06 F350 DRW GVWR

I see that some of the 03 F350 DRW I have seen have a GVWR of 11,500 but the newer 06 F350 DRW have a GVWR of 13,000. Is the difference in the springs or is it a gain just on paper? I know they switch spring design (leaf vs coil) but did they increase the capacity or the axles or hardware? Thanks

  • If the truth could be known Ford probably made changes to everything during that time from the stuff behind the grill to the bracket that holds the rear bumper.
It's not just going to be a bigger spring pack.
  • Starting with the "tow wars" in 2005 Ford upgraded the suspension, and brakes. My 2004 dually is 11,500# a 2015 equivalent is 14,000# GVWR.

My truck weighs about 8,000# so that's an increase from 3,500# to 6,000# of cargo capacity. GCWR went from 20,000# to around 32,000# which is huge!

Ford increased the spring size (width) and increased the frame thickness in 05.
