I have 5.9 in the 2001 model. Best I've ever owned. Water pump and lift pump (upgraded to FASS system)in 12 years of ownership. Only thing I don't like about it is A/C system and rear end traction in ice/snow. I'm shopping around for a replacement(new or used) and can't find anything that comes close to the trouble free miles I've had with it.
IMO keep it stock, clean filters and clean oil keeps trouble away.
