My truck is set up 'Absolute', as you say. There's no way I'd mess around with a lift pump in the tank that's just wrong. Like I said, a good diesel system has a prefilter to protect the lift pump. Prefilter means it's on the suction side and Racor makes one specifically for that. A prefilter collects all the larger particles to help the factory filter not get clogged.
My truck.... if I get a clog I know right where it is and can change in minutes. Even have fuel shut offs to not loose prime.
Folks, you cannot prefilter fuel if the lift pump is in the tank.
