I heard a few years back the NC was getting strict about what is "commercial". Rumor was that they were stopping and citing anyone who appeared to be commercial. ie: folks towing trailers with "Such & Such Racing" and that kind of thing on the side or any other rig painting that gave a commercial appearance. I think the theory was if you made money or tried to make money with your rig then you are commercial. Regardless of any DOT numbers or GVWR. Haven't heard any more recently. It may have been more of a DL issue than a weight station issue.
