If you have a vehicle made in the last 25 years and drive it regularly there's no reason to avoid ethanol unless you want the extra MPG that pure gas gives. Yes, it really does as was pointed out, there is less energy in ethanol thus worse mileage. That's just physics and math.
I put ethanol in our modern daily drivers all the time, no problem. I never put ethanol in my boat or my small engines and I never will if at all possible. I also don't put ethanol into classic automobiles that were not designed for it. The hoses, o-rings, and other rubber parts will degrade, again, that's just chemistry, nothing you can do about it.
