That is like saying Nitro will only make more power on a top fuel engine. :R
"ANY" engine that gets more O2 to it will produce more HP. From a 5 HP Briggs to the biggest engine in the world.
That's how Alkie, Nitro and Nitrous works! They ALL contain O2 in their makeup and it's like chemically supercharging your engine.
The good thing is the more the O2 content a fuel has the more power you get. That would be the reason Nitro wins the contest with over 50% O2.
The bad is, the more O2 a fuel has the lower the fuel mileage is. That would be the reason a top fueler takes around 12 gallons of fuel in a 1/4 mile run.
BTU's of energy in alcohol fuel are less then pure gasoline. If the engine is tuned to take advantage of the lower BTU, but higher resistance to preignition, allowing for higher compression, and therefore higher HP.
Do and experiment, put alcohol fuel in a mason jar and set it somewhere it won't be disturbed for about 3 months. Alcohol comes out of solution, and will absorb moisture from the air. The resulting product that settles is extremely corrosive.
