There's a flaw in the logic of that article, it mentions how hub centric wheels apply the load to the hub instead of the lugs yet then goes on to say that the cheap plastic hub centric rings are required for wheels that have a larger center bore. There's several articles about hub centric rings and that their only purpose is to align the wheel on center for mounting and once the lugs are torqued the rings job is done. Makes sense as how could a $10 pair of plastic rings hold the load of a car never mind a truck with a heavy camper?
