Historically, the term was a colloquialism used in the early-to-mid 20th century by Communists and Socialists in political debates, referring pejoratively to the Communist "party line", which provided for "correct" positions on many matters of politics"
This is why I as a cross between a republican and progressive party (bull moose party of the 1900's, long live Teddy Roosevelt) refuse to be political correct just for the sake of it, now I will be coy and tactful with respect to my fellow humans, but not out of correctness, but respect.
