Both trucks were under 4,000lbs. My 2016 F150 weighs in at 5,600lbs even with the aluminum body. I like my new truck but that goes a long towards explaining why gas mileage hasn't improved more.
And the '74 models would carry more people. You could put 4 in the cab and 8-10 in the back. No need for two rows of seats.
