Horsepower ratings have sure increased a lot since 1996, when the GVWR of a dually was only 10,000 pounds, and the SRW 2005 F-250 was 10,000 pounds, while a 2005 F-350 dually could carry 5,500 pounds with the V10 engine!

I am sure happy to know that the GVWR has improved SO much over the years, led by Ford of course!

Now I am about to pick up my new Transit van, and it will have a 3,000 pound cargo rating! 3,000 pounds is more cargo rating than all these 1996 dually pickups! And my van will have single rear wheels, T-250 with a small V6, with 365 HP, more power than any of these three "Monster Trucks" from 1996 had under the hood!

Those older duallys did only have a GVWR of 10K, but remember they were much lighter empty than today's trucks. I had a '94 F250 Supercab 4x4 that was listed at just 5200 pounds on the title. A 2WD dually might have been a few hundred pounds heavier but that still gives around a 4K payload.
  • While it was not a really, my 96as crew cab has been my personal favorite truck of the dozen or so I have owned.

The other thing for some, the 35 called of today are not what I would call a 1 ton, they are more in the class 4 well, and the se 25/35 trucks are more inline with a dot class 3 1 ton truck.

The funny thing is a lot of the trucks from 1996 are still going after 20 years.

I hope the new ones have the same longevity. With the complexity of new trucks.

True fact! You can replace the entire motor in the V10 Ram and the 454 Chevy and still come out cheaper than a 6.7 POWERSTROKE HPFP failure.

Those seats in the Chevy were oh so comfy too!

  • I remember getting a card in the mail, and it said "Recive a free gift if you come test drive a Dodge. So I went to the local Dodge dealer, and figured 'why not test drive the V10 3500?'

I told the salesman that I wanted to tow my dune buggy on a trailer, what is the towing capacity of this truck? (1991 V10 3500)

The salesman said it would tow 6,000 or 7,000 pounds! Wow!

The real answer was something like 13,000 pounds, but he was cluelesss. . .

The 2000 F-150's had a 300 HP rating the same as the 1996 V10 from Dodge. Now Dodge even has some more V8's that are close to 300 HP!

  • The price has doubled and the torque has doubled as well. The RAM went from a 13,000# trailer to a 30,000# trailer. Too bad we can't get the new spec's at the old price LOL
