My trailer is 6300# empty. Packed up and ready to camp we are still under 7000#. I pull with a Tahoe that has the same drive-train you have. It is a one handed drive, not one time has it been a white knuckle event. I have to pay attention or I will be running 75mph. It is all in the hitch. My hitch (see my profile for a picture) was $320 at etrailer.com.
The longest trip I have made was about 300 miles but it was on I-49 in NW Arkansas thru the hills. It will maintain highway speed if I want to run 4000 rpm but I slow to about 50 on the hills and about 3500 rpm. I don't think it has ever dropped below 4th gear.
When we had our MH we traveled all over the US and several trips out west. I would not think twice about doing those same trips with our TT. We are planning on heading to CO next year.
To each his own.
