2.7 Liter Ecoboost and 3.55 Rear ..5K Towing Capacity?

Hi all,

So I was looking at a 2018 F150 CC with a 2.7 Liter Ecoboost and 3.55 rear. It has a payload rating of 1700 pounds.

The dealer swears the truck only has a GCWR of 10200 and hence a 5000 pound towing capacity.

Looking thru the 2018 Ford F150 towing specs, I see the 2018 F150 CC, 2.7 liter Ecoboost with a 3.55 rear is rated at 7700 pounds towing capacity.

Am I missing something here? I can find no listing for a 2.7 liter ecoboost configuration with a towing capacity below 7500 pounds....

Thoughts?

Page 18 of the Ford 2018 Trailer Tow Guide does NOT recommend towing with a 2.7L 4x2 SuperCrew with 3.55 (note the dashes in the boxes). 4x4 is limited to 7,600 lbs and only on the 145" wheel base version.

With a 3.73 rear axle that jumps to 8,100 lbs (either wheel base) but I would want the Trailer Tow Package and the 2.7L EcoBoost Payload Package.

    The Trailer Package Includes:

    • 4-pin/7-pin wiring harness
    • Auxiliary transmission oil cooler
    • Class IV trailer hitch receiver
    • Pro Trailer Backup Assist
    • Tailgate LED
    • Smart Trailer Tow Connector
    • Upgraded front stabilizer bar

Very informative and comprehensive guide I might add.

    Concur on the trailer package.

One possible meaning of the "-" in the 2017 guide you link to is the 4X2, 2.7, 3.55, CC combo was not offered as an option in 2017. Otherwise the dashes don't make much sense. Think about it, look at the Table, a given configuration at XX,XXX GCWR can tow Y,YYY pounds but the same configuration at a GCWR of XX,XXX + 100 has a "-". Does this mean it is not recommended to tow anything? I suspect it means that combination was not offered that year.

I think a more probable interpretation is the combination of an F150, 4X2, CC, 2.7, 3.55 was not offered in 2017 hence the "-". In 2018 it was offered hence the 7700.

Quite possibly the goofiest statement in....well maybe a week anyways on rvnet!
"Ford does not reccomend towing with a 4x2 2.7l....." Lol
  • I think you are linking to the 2017 towing guide. Here is the link to the 2018 Guide and it shows 7700 pounds for a 4X2, CC, 2.7 Ecoboost with 3.55...unless I am reading it wrong..
