Great rig! Probably the second best towing SUV available.
Curious as to what is the best? In my opinion, there are only four "True" towing SUV's
8.1 gmc suburban
7.3 excursion
6.0 bullet proofed excursion
v10 Excursion
I bought a 2003 V10 4.30 in 2010. Wanted the 7.3 but could not justify the $25,000 they were getting for one with 150,000 on the odometer. Picked mine up for $10,000 with 78,000 miles on it when gas was just over $4 per gallon.
Would like to hear what you had to give for that 2000 7.3. That looks like a great rig!
Just having a little fun here! It's a great rig.
People tend to claim that the Excursion with the diesel is the best towing SUV ever. My 2002 2500 Suburban with the 8.1 liter engine has a higher cargo capacity and a higher tow rating than that Excursion. While the diesel is a plus the ratings are a minus IMO. - BurbManExplorer II

I agree, and essentially why I chose the burb over the X in 2001...after spending too much time reading on here about ratings, I wanted the highest GVWR and GCWR I could get. Also the torsion bar front suspension makes for a smoother ride than the solid axle on the Ford. I had no desire for a diesel at the time, but in hindsight the 7.3 might have been a good choice. - LantleyNomad

Nothing against the 8.1. It is a great engine. But is't not a diesel.
I had a 7.3 PSD X. I never wish for anything else... OK maybe a better transmission! - colliehaulerExplorer III

Or even someone could have replaced the door, Superduty's and Excursions are interchangeable. Doesn't really mater.Lantley wrote:

That’s a keeper! It looks like the 6.0L badge on the door, though.....:h
They didnt make a 6.0 in 2000
You cannot tell the year by the picture, but you can see a 6.0 emblem in the picture. Something is rotten in Denmark!
Don't think in 2000, or any year, there were any diesel emblems. I would speculate a previous owner stuck them on.
7.3 emblems have a black background
6.0 emblems have a chrome background.

To me the Burb rides better but I prefer the Excursion for towing. Both are solid proven performer's. Company truck was a 8.1 with the Allison.captnjack wrote:

Prefer the 155" WB 3500 van for the extra space for up to 12 passengers and luggage space behind the last seat.
- ThreebigfordsExplorerThis was our 03 7.3 X ....was the wife's ride. Loved that rig.
Never towed more than 10k with it as I always had a F350 handy at the time for the heavier loads.
One of the few rigs I truly regret selling. - hotpepperkidExplorerI wish that is a better picture. My 2000 F-350's badge on the door is black with silver lettering and under the word power stroke is red. The exhaust tip on this looks slated or hash cut so that tells me it is a 7.3. The 6.0's were straight. My F-350 has the same rims as in the picture
- doughboyExplorerit's a 7.3 diesel!
was no way of telling the folks that it was diesel when it wasn't running, soooo i put on a powerstroke badge.
gets comments now!!!
