I know this comment is probably more for the OP, but my reasoning for wanting to go with a truck camper is more about getting into harder to reach access areas where TT/5ths would not be able to get to. Think tight, multi switch-back non-paved roads. There is a fair amount of that in the Rockies but add that I would like to also pull my OHV trailer too. Just opens up the access for me a bit more than loading an ATV in my truck bed and pulling a 30' trailer.
It is one reason why I am glad I have a newer diesel 1 ton with camper package that has a good amount of payload for trcuk camper capability. Yes, SRW long box and I would be looking for a truck camper not exceeding 2500 lbs so my choices will be limited.
