2005 Chalet Alpine brakes - question

Thanks for your replies, ScottG and sushidog - I was out today, will pass this info along to my husband and probably return with more questions!

Is there a little black box on the tongue (break away switch) with a small diameter cable (attached to a removable key) that loops over your trailer ball when hitching up? If so, your trailer has brakes.

You should be able to look at the back side of the hubs and see wires.
Does the trailer have a 7 or 4 pin connector to the tow vehicle?
If it's 7 pin then there's a good chance it has brakes but if it's just a flat 4 pin then it does not.
