2009 Ford F250 super duty v8

Going to check one of these out tomorrow.

4x4, SuperCab 4 dr 6.8ft

5.4L V8
Regular Gas,
Automatic

Anybody have any experience with these? The thing is in amazing condition. Yellow sticker on drivers door says passengers and cargo shouldn't exceed 2509lbs.

Inside truck will be me, my girlfriend, dog, motorcycle in bed of truck and misc stuff.

Total= 965lbs

That would leave 1,544lbs left for tongue weight. I know i dont want to use ALL of this weight, but i just want somebody to double check me on this to make sure all looks good.

    If you like that generation truck, I highly recommend the V10. It offers a lot more power while using the same amount of fuel under all conditions.

    I would agree the V10 would be more desirable, but it's all about how big of a hurry you are in. IMHO the 5.4 would be adequate for towing what you are looking for. The V10 is also rare on the market, the 5.4's are more common.

    The comment about loading and unloading a bike in the bed is a worthy consideration, and I've done it a dozen times or so without mishap so far. You might jump over to youtube and search 'load fail' for hours of what not to do.

    X2 on all of this. It will be adequate and the max tongue weight on the factory receiver is 1250 lbs. The 5.4L is small but it will do the job. A 6.8L V-10 would do it better with no appreciable fuel penalty.

  • Looks like a nice tow vehicle. The tow guide says 9500 lbs max trailer weight with the 3.73 rear, which would put you in the neighborhood of 1250 lbs max tongue weight. My 2011 hitch maxes out at 1200 lbs tongue weight with weight distribution hitch.
    If you are the same person that was planning on touring the country for a year, I would think real hard about loading a bike in and out of the pickup. Having loaded a few bikes in my day, it is not without risk. That said, perhaps a toy hauler would be best. I have never looked at toy haulers, but I suspect they run heavier than equivalent living space standard trailers. That 9500 lb towing capacity may not give you as many choices in toy haulers. All conjecture and opinion on my part, but I would definetly not want to load a bike in a pickup unless there were no other options!
