I have read a lot about fuel pump problems on 2011 and up Chevy Duramax engines. I would like everyone that has a duramax of the these years to post mileage and whether they have had problems with there fuel pump only. Please post if you have had no problems also. Like this2011 Duramax no problems with fuel pump. 35kKind of curious about this cause I have read all about the 10k fix. I understand for about 4k you can put a cp3 pump in and not worry. Seems like a lot to spend just in case. ThanksWell I just found a poll on that on duramax forum. The results were just over 6 percent had total fuel pump failure before 100k. There were 339 responses to the poll. The poll has it all broken down if interested check it out on the forum.

GM and Ford use or used the same lift pump from Bosch. Both were quite prone to failures due to contaminents in the fuel. Earlier CP3 I think was the designation did not have the problem. Incidentially I think that is what Ram is still using. At last I read while Ford was refusing to honoe warrenty on them GM was quietly taking care of the failures.

FCA uses the CP4 in the EcoDiesel, Nissan uses it in their new Cummins Titan and VW uses it in their cars as well. In the US I think the only engine that still uses the more reliable CP3 is the I6 Cummins. There was a guy who just in the last few weeks who had his 4 or 5 year old Duramax CP4 blow up on him, but GM stepped up and covered most of it. You can probably find that thread with a search.

Yes, RAM/Cummins still uses the CP3 injection pump, while Ford and GM are using the CP4-2 injection pump. VW uses the CP4-1 with similar issues. Then along came all those that will say they have never had an issue, which is good, as the repair bill is 10-12K. If this continues to be pushed off(Ford) to one insurance policy, then rates are going to sky rocket!I believe the RAM 1500 ecodiesel uses the CP4 injection pump, along with the new 5L Cummins in the Nissan.Chris

Forum polls don't accurately represent real world fail rates. ITs a very small subset of the overall population. Only the manufactures know the true fail rates and you can bet they are not willing to share.

I have a tendency to believe the people on forums are more than average having problems with their rig. Therefor numbers have a tendency to be higher than is reality.

...no...it has been researched by many...I can't speak for wjhat the numbers are today but back when my debacle was taking place the monthly premium for mechanical break down for a 6.7 Ford was 3x more than the GM with the same pump...maybe the dog can give the current numbers...

They price their policies accordingly. More failures without warranty support means more claims paid and higher premiums.
Price a policy for each and see what it comes out to.

You won't get an answer to that.. But it is possible to make an educated guess.

...right on the money...I would still have the Ford if they would have fixed it...even after the fight it took to get a final answer...for the newer readers, I learned a valuable lesson in life over the Ford debacle...I was a champion of the 6.7 Ford cause...to the point of being obnoxious...my wife 's dad was an engineer there for 37 years, her BIL has been in management at Ford for 25 years...she never had any other brand in her driveway until our problems...now...I am back in Chevy's and she is enjoying her Subaru Outback...loyalty to customers does not run deep at Ford...

What is needed is for some insurance company that has paid out multiple claims to take FORD to task regarding the fact that these trucks are not setting a water in fuel event, yet Ford is claiming that the insurance companies client used bad fuel.

Some think that GM is not very smart at times, yet they are a lot smarter on this CP4.2 issue by just fixing them!
