Apparently 100s of thousands are willing and the story is almost 5 years old.
It's unfortunate it happened but google any manufacturer for warranty denial and you'll get pages.
Insurance companies know the risk... At least the ones that offer Mechanical breakdown insurance.
They price their policies accordingly. More failures without warranty support means more claims paid and higher premiums.
Price a policy for each and see what it comes out to.
