- lenrExplorer IIICheck out extensive discussion about this test on dieselstop.com and costly mistakes made by many including dealers. Remember there are two radiator systems.

is this because of dex-cool, or fords equivalent? are fords that fragile coolant tests are needed every so many miles?

I believe that test is necessary with any vehicle's cooling system that uses HOAT anti-freeze. Test strips are readily available at most auto parts stores around these parts. - gmcsmokeExplorercoolant.....nitrite....test?

Lakeside - 45RicochetExplorerI'm not crazy about dealers, but with that truck I'd want documented maintenance records from a Ford dealer. Just saying :W
Hundred bucks is pretty high though. - skyhammerExplorerYes, a message comes up when you need to check it. I had mine checked(for free), and it tested OK.
The problem with buying the test kits,is that the strips have an expiration date and unless you put on a lot of miles, the strips will have expired before you get a chance to use them all.
I know some owners get together to buy a kit and divvy up the test strips. - LynnmorExplorerA message will appear at about 15,000 miles. Some dealers do it for free, and most don't do it right. Get your own kits and do it yourself. I got my kit at dieselfiltersonline, haven't used it yet.
