No, its not the Z71 package. Z71 on the 2500HDs consists of Rancho shocks, skid plates, and a G80 rear locker and that's it... There is no front springs on these trucks as they all use torsion bars. Only 3500HDs get an extra rear leaf spring.
More than likely the reason the ride on the 2013 was so harsh is the previous owner attempted to level the truck by cranking the torsion bar keys (very common). Without putting on longer shocks to compensate for the extra travel the ride will go to******in a hurry. Turning the torsion keys back down will correct the problem and return the stock ride.
Brand new 2013 -- at dealer. SO, no previous owner -- But it sat taller too, and that Z-71 package says HD springs on the 2500HD . So, I don't know exactly here why, because I didn't go inspecting it much.
Once I drove it, and it rode that rough, and the steering felt strange too -- it was done anyway. But, when we got in it, it was definitely taller, but at least an inch and a half if not two. No doubt in my mind.
Not a mechanic here, but have been driving GM trucks for a lot of years -- so I just am giving the opinion of how it felt to drive it, and am not positive why it felt like it did ... I do know, I didn't like that ride ... and when I climbed in the 2015, it was easier, lower a small amount, and much, much smoother on the road, and turning ...
More expensive, of course, but we can't spend that kind of money and be anything less than perfectly satisfied... This 2015 did the trick, unfortunately couldn't save the bucks on that 2013, but it just didn't cut it ...
Both had 265 tires, so it wasn't that -
