You should not have any problems. I tow a Puma 25RS with my 2007 Cheverolet Silervado, 5.3 and has the tow pkg. I pull over Monteagle with no problem. Gas mileage is about right for the speed. I have a small two wheel trailer that I haul things on. My gas mileage drops also when I have my lawn mower etc. on it in proportion to the weight. My Dodge Caravan gets better gas mileage pulling the small utility trailer than my truck. As mentioned about...wind resistance and drag play a major part in the decrease of gas mileage.
When I tow my 12 x 6 enclosed utility trailer I get better MPG with my Wife's Acadia then with my 1500 Sierra. I believe it comes down to the wind resistance like you mentioned... The Acadia allows less wind to drop down beind it before hitting the front of the trailer. My pickup truck has an extra 6 feet of 'drop' for that wind before it hits the trailer. I would think that a high level cap on a pickup would fix that a little bit LOL.
