My Dodge bed is dented in several spots from the camper.
Blulaid drinkers feel free to pile on....lol. But it's a truck bed with 2-1/2 tons in it. Unless you spread the load (like with plywood) you'll get some denting and fatigue.
Doesn't explain the bed side bending out, but that's not out of the question imo. Have bent lots of bed sides in and out on trucks. Still a light gauge stamped steel bed. That's why dump trucks are built heavier.
Like you found, a little pushing or pulling usually lines em right back up
