2014 Ram 2500 Cummins Owners MPG info

I have a 2014 3500 and get about 22 on the hwy solo...17 in town...very pleased so far with it

thanks guys for all you replies. Just bought the truck on Monday. 2014 Ram 2500 Cummins Megacab. Love it so far. Drove about 300 hwy miles with an average (evic) of 21.9 mpg. Towing my enclosed landscape it is 13.9 mpg. But love the power and ease of towing. The big test will be this weekend. Traveling 400 miles with TT on along for the ride. Thanks again guys.

Don't let some of these numbers fool you. You will see it once you purchase it. The EVIC numbers are consistently higher by about 2-3 mpg, so don't believe it. Hand calculation is the best way.

Towing depends on how much foot you put in it on take off, speed on going down the road, cruise or no cruise, weight, head winds, tail winds, etc. etc.

I have a 2013 Ram 3500 Dually CC longbed automatic w/3:42 gears. I have 8200 miles on it and can admit by hand calculating on 2 trips with a weight ticket from a truck stop that my 19,460 lbs. of gross weight got me 10.7 and 10.3 mpg on about 95% highway roads at 68 mph using cruise control. I do not use this for grocery getting so my in town is not valid and I only drive 2.6 miles to work each day.

My next big trip is to Florida with about 600 lbs. less due to missing the golf cart but will have generators, wood, etc. etc..

You will enjoy the truck, you will find the sweet spot when cruising with your camper and will settle with what it will give you. Real world numbers from probably the best person that I know personaly is located over on www.cumminsforum.com - look up GSBrockman for his 36,000 miles of hand calculated numbers from being on the road with all different types of weights and towing units. Campers, enclosed trailers, portable bathrooms, tractors, etc. etc. and yes - even cruising unloaded.

My 2013 Ram 2500 Longhorn Limited with the Cummins and the 6 speed auto, 9.5-11 mpg towing my 10,000# Toy Hauler. Driving the mountains and in town driving 17-18 mpg, on the highway 20-21 mpg as long as I keep it under 77 MPH. I calculate my mileage and have found that the on board computer is fairly consistently shows 1 mpg higher that my calculations. I now have 19,000 miles on the odometer, love my truck and the exhaust brake is a real life saver. JH

Let's see. 2005 5.9 2500 4X4 auto 4 door: 16-18 mpg MT and 9-10 towing; 2008 2500 crew 6.7 4X4 auto 11-12 mpg MT and 9-10 towing; 2012 crew 6.7 4X4 auto 11-12 MT and 9-10 towing.

Expect 12mpg towing a TT. My friend has towed my TT with a 2012 Duramax and got 12mpg at 72mph. FWIW, my newer GM 6.0L/6-spd/3.73 gets 18mpg non-towing highway, 14mpg mixed, and 8-10mpg towing my TT. GM has made some good improvements. Likewise, Ram's 6.4L and Ford's 6.2L with modern trans really improved from 10+ year old trucks.

Click on my truck's name to see my Fuelly site. You can see what fuel economy in what mix of driving I'm getting. My best is just a hair under 22mpg. My typical is in the 18 to 19mpg range with up to 70% city driving. YMMV.

I hand calculate mine. The meter is off by 5-10% each time. I consistently get 19-21 MPG on my 13 Ram 2500 4x4 unloaded as long as I don't drive it hard and run 55-65. The towing figure he gave you is much higher than mine though. Towing either of my trailers, a 30 ft Four Winds weighing about 7K or my 26' Catamaran boat that weighs about 6K, I can only manage 11-12MPG. Towing is about the same as my old 97 CTD

I'm glad it's just your opinion, cause I own a diesel and for a second I thought I had a high maintenance truck. On second though it is cause I enjoy driving it so much I'm burning more diesel than I should.:)

The modern "diesel" doesn't cost any more to operate than a modern gas eng. and does not need any more "maintenance" than an equiv. gas eng (of course there really is no equivalent gas eng).
You have to actually own one to understand, and then you'll never go back.

The diesel holds its value better as well.
