Painted grille/bumpers vs chrome is a preference thing only IMO.
The paint holds up fine. Yes there will be wear and tear but judging by my 2 vehicles 9 and 10 years old, the painted one has held up better.
Have replaced the chrome grille on the truck once like 5 years ago, chrome peeled off. Bumper is rusting and the rest of the truck is rust free. 135kmi and the grille is discolor ing again.
06 charger, painted, 100kmi shows less west and tear and is original.
I think Dodge at one time had front bumpers that rusted but was probably due to poor quality control at the plater, but I can assure you properly chrome bumpers are much more durable than paint. Let some Love Bugs set on the paint for 1 week and then wash them off you'll notice the acid from these bugs literally etch the paint off. Rock chips again will chip off the paint. Both of these will not even phase good quality chrome.
That logic all the vehicle should be chrome plated.
No... Just the areas that receive the most abuse.
BTW... I'm glad to see the '17 King Ranch Super Duty's going back to the more durable chrome bumpers. The painted ones is was kept me from buying one in '12.
Are you sure they won't be a option?
I can just tell you that on my 2005 it has a mix of chrome and paint and the chrome is flawless after 11 years but the paint is chipped and pitted from road debris.
Yep...My 05 Super Duty was the same way and you better not leave any Love Bugs on that paint or the acid from them would etch the paint right off. I had my '05 truck parked at the Matagorda Harbor boat ramp a few years ago and someone's boat trailer clipped by front bumper pretty good. A little chrome polish and a buffer polished it out back to new. If that would have been a painted steel bumper it would have required a trip to the body shop to get it back to new.
