I am surprised that the GVWR on the gas truck is so much lower than the diesel. Enjoy your new truck. I think that the $8,000 you saved will be well worth it in the end. And you can get a oil change for $35 not the $150 that you used to spend on one!
Have fun camping!
Fred.
PS: My gas motorhome with a 460" engine totally outran my buddies Country Coach with a 400 HP diesel on a steep mountain grade. With the heavier truck, I would not be surprised if you do have a higher 0-60 MPH speed than your buddy. .
Whoever is paying $150.00 to get their diesel oil changed is a fool. My dealer does it for $68.95. I was in there a month ago buying a fuel filter and he mentioned that to me. I've been doing my own for $52.00 with Rotella and a OEM Cummins filter. The money I save in fuel while towing will offset the cost of oil changes easily. And that $8000 smile I have running thru the mtns in Oregon, well it's priceless.
