- Sandia_ManExplorer IIThat's what I get is 8-11 miles mpg. Since we primarily camp here in the mountain west, 8 mpg is pretty much our average. Camping in TX, southern parts of AZ and Cali is where we saw 11 mpg a few times. Our TT comes in at just over 10K# and as long as there is plenty of gas our HD2500 crewcab manages it quite well. No need for a diesel as our TV is dedicated to towing, otherwise it just sits in the garage until called to duty.
- RobWNYExplorerI'm getting 10.5 in my 2015 2500HD Silverado with the 6.0L engine and 4.10 gears. Be prepared for it to scream going up steep hills. It sounds like it's working very hard but it really isn't. They are geared to provide the best horsepower and torque in the neighborhood of 5500 RPM's. Will it be as good as a Diesel would be? No, but I couldn't justify the extra money for the diesel and Allison transmission when I drive it 4,000-6,000 miles a year.
- TomG2ExplorerWas the OP looking at a diesel? Of course they get better mileage.
- jalichtyExplorerI do believe you will get between 8 and 10 mpg. We tow a Jayco HT 26.5 RLS and a 19 Crestliner with our 2012 D/A crew cab GMC 2500HD and get, generally close to 12 on the highway. We took the FW only on a 3,500 mile trip last spring to Idaho, Nevada, Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks, Palm Desert, Zion and Salt Lake City and then home and got 12 mpg over the whole trip. But diesels will get better mileage pulling the same loads and that's why I say between 8 and 10. Our old 454 Vortec would get 8 mpg and our old diesel pulling the same loads would get around 12, approximately 50% greater mpg.
- APTExplorerWhatever you got with the Armada towing should be the same. I get 8-10mpg with my 6.0L/6-spd/3.73 depending on speed and wind. I have never seen a gas engine tow a high walled RV get 12mpg. Budget for 8mpg and be happy with 9-10. I budget for 8mpg and can get that at 65-70mph towing. I get 10mpg closer to 60mph.
- RinconVTRExplorerIn my experience, no matter what gas motor you pull with, towing most enclosed trailer return a common range of 8-11mpg regardless of weight.
Its driving speed and techniques that really makes the difference.
Why do I say that?
- With my current TT, a small V6 got the very same MPG as my current big V8.
- Pulling an empty 6x14 cargo trailer I get the very same MPG range.
- Towing the same 6x14 cargo trailer with my Dads Flex Ecoboost, is within the very same range.
In every case, 10-11 (even 12 on slower 2 lane highways) is easy if we slow down and limit passing. - TomG2ExplorerI get 7-9 mpg towing less with that same pickup. I don't tow over 65 mph either. Nice little thirsty engine.
- nomad297Explorer10-12 mpg
